The week that was…

As race season starts to heat up we had a number of athletes out and about racing this weekend in both duathlon and triathlon disciplines.

First up we had Paul Tyrrell (00:57:17) vying to earn Team GB qualification at Stockton Duathlon sprint distance. In what was a draft legal bike leg Paul was unsure how things would pan out. His plan to get a group together and work as a unit seemed to have paid off as he came home in 11th place overall and 3rd in AG and pending official confirmation has earned GB AG qualification. His time of 00:57:17 was a stellar effort after a long week of nightshift.

In the standard race we had Mal Ireland-Craig (02:21:31), Mark Finlay (02:12:56), Andrew Barnes (02:14:42) and Dean Jukes (02:47:0`8) representing the chaps and two already certified GB representatives in Sue Barnes (03:21:56) and Michelle Hartley (02:42:17). It was a cracking day at the riverside in Stockton and there was a real buzz of activity on site with a strong showing of support for all the competitors. It was another well run event by Tri Hard and was (mostly) enjoyed by all.

We also had Colin Thompson taking part in his first ever triathlon at the Go tri event in Prudoe this weekend. He came second and pretty safe to say he is now hooked and will be seen racing again shortly!! We also had Michael Effard taking part in this event as his first triathlon and he came in 37th position.

And finally for this week a shout out to our honorary globetrotting member Alessandro Schoenmaker who this weekend took part in the Sprint Tri in Amsterdam. Despite some self confessed race rust he set a very solid time of 01:15:00. He continues to fly the flag for NE31 and it’s great to see!!
